Boy dies after being pulled from suburban campground's lake: officials
Asael Gonzalez-Guel, 12, has died after being pulled from the water at Camp Bullfrog Lake in the 9600-block of Wolf Road in Willow Springs, Illinois.

WILLOW SPRINGS, Ill. (WLS) -- A 12-year-old boy is dead after being pulled from a lake at a campground in southwest suburban Willow Springs on Friday evening, officials said.

A Forest Preserves of Cook County spokesperson said according to witnesses, the child and his younger brother, a 9-year-old, ended up in the water at Camp Bullfrog Lake after one of the boys slipped in.

Visitors who were fishing on the lake's bank were able to pull the younger boy to safety from shallower water.

A dive team from the North Palos Fire Department and Water Rescue Team found the older boy unresponsive just before 7:45 p.m.

The 12-year-old was taken to Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 8:30 p.m.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Asael Gonzalez-Guel.
